Philippine Day 2019

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

We are so humbled and excited to be able to represent the Children's Shelter of Cebu at this year's Philippine Day at the Aldrich Arena.

On April 7th, 2019, the Cultural Society of Filipino Americans (CSFA) held its 32nd Annual Philippine Day. Philippine Day is a celebration of all things Filipino-American. There are food vendors, craft vendors, dance performances, musical performances ... and this year, by God's grace and through the generosity of CSFA, there was also a booth representing the Children's Shelter of Cebu.

Because every child deserves a family.

We were able to connect with tons of wonderful people who already have a close relationship with the shelter: adoptive families, adopted kids, generous supporters, and friends. We were also able to introduce CSC to a lot of folks who never knew the organization existed. There was even a vlogger there (Coffee with the Goose) who stopped by and showed a genuine interest in what CSC is all about. He was kind enough to record an interview which he includes in his vlog at the 1:30 mark (check out the video below).

It was such a blessing and an honor to represent CSC in public for the first time as its incoming Field Director. When asked who we are and what we do, we shared the message that we do this because every child deserves a family, and we do it in order to share the love that Christ has so generously and unconditionally shared with us.

Thank You!

Thank you so much Ate Lauren and Kuya Jose from #CSFA who so generously donated the space at the event for CSC's booth. Thank you to all of the wonderful people who stopped by to introduce themselves and/or find out more about what God is doing in Cebu. Thanks Tito Jay and worship team for holding down the fort at #FACC while we manned the CSC booth at the Aldrich Arena. And last but not least, thank you to all those who decided to support the Shelter by sponsoring children or giving online gifts.

Prayer Request

Our kids shared a few prayer requests with us last night (every evening over dinner we go around the table and share prayer and praise items specifically about our upcoming move). They are praying that they can pack well (i.e. - bring all of their favorite items) and meet great new friends while keeping in touch with old ones. For Heather and I, it's that we continue focused on God during this time when so many tasks are vying for out attention.

"I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness" (Isaiah 42:6-7, ESV).
